My recent home upgrade in Reading

I needed a fitted bar after hosting a gathering where we ran out space. I chose to look near the Oracle Shopping Centre.

I found the website while scrolling and sent photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens replied with a price that seemed fair for the work.

The process of organising this project was actually quite involved. I dedicated many days reflecting on the configuration of the room before even choosing up the phone. My lounge area has constantly felt a bit incomplete, and owning a proper area for drinks felt like the perfect solution to that problem. I remember sitting in my hallway looking at a cluttered countertop covered with glassware and feeling that everything had to change. The first conversation with the staff was extremely straightforward, which provided me assurance. We discussed different aesthetics, from modern minimalist looks to more traditional and timber finishes. I was really impressed by how much detail they wanted about the measurements and the existing decor of my home. It felt like they truly desired the finished result to match seamlessly with the balance of the building. I provided various views in the photos I sent, making sure every corner was clear. They explained that the bespoke nature of the unit signified that precision was entirely critical to avoid any problems throughout the installation. We went back and back on potential resources, looking at swatches of quartz and various kinds of timber grain. It is surprising how many consideration goes into picking the right hardware, like knobs and fittings, which could completely alter the vibe of the entire build. I needed a place where I could easily prepare cocktails for guests without having to constantly run back to the pantry for ice or glasses. The ease of having everything in a single spot was the main reason for this investment. We finalised the design following a short consultation where all my questions about wiring and electric points were addressed. I liked that they didn't hurry the planning stage, spending the effort to ensure that the width of the shelving was sufficient for my tallest bottles. It seemed like a collaborative effort rather than a simple transaction, which is hard to locate nowadays.

The fitting date came faster than expected, and the fitter was on time and ready. He started by placing down protective covers to ensure my flooring stayed clean. Watching the components being unloaded was interesting, as the quality of the wood was instantly obvious. He meticulously checked the alignment of the walls before attaching the base frame of the bar. I watched as the skeleton slowly gained shape, changing a plain alcove into a functional piece. The level of craftsmanship involved in fitting the panels to the uneven walls of my older home was impressive. He explained how each section slotted together to create total stability. We spent a little duration choosing on the final height for the integrated cooler, ensuring it was accessible to open but hidden back from main view. The installation of the counter was the highly satisfying part of the whole day. Seeing the smooth surface at last resting on the base made the project feel to life. He then fitted the mirrored backing, which instantly caused the space to feel twice the breadth. The lighting were connected next, and checking them for the initial time was a thrill. The warm glow underneath the racks highlighted the bottles perfectly. I could see precisely how handy this would be for evening events. The fitter was highly diligent, spending the effort to clean down each surface and remove any debris made during the drilling. He also demonstrated me how to move the racks should I later needed to store larger items. The attention to precision was really exceptional, right down to the sealant lines along the joins. It was obvious that he took immense satisfaction in his craft, which is consistently reassuring to see. We conducted a final walkthrough of the finished work to make everything was perfect. I observed that a single knob was slightly wobbly, and he tightened it immediately with a quick turn of a tool. This thoroughness is just what I was hoping for when I booked the service.

The completed bar looks absolutely amazing and has become the focal point of my downstairs. It offers a sophisticated vibe that had been formerly lacking from my reception room. The storage is immense, allowing me to organise all my spirits, mixers, and fancy glassware in one cohesive unit. No longer do I need to rummage inside cluttered kitchen shelves to locate a bottle opener or a certain type of tumbler. Everything has its rightful home, which renders entertaining much much easier and relaxing. I enjoy the way the finishes catch the light in the afternoons, making a warm atmosphere. My guests have already complimented the setup multiple times, with some actually inquiring for the details of the people who built it. It truly seems like a bespoke addition made exactly for my lifestyle. The height of the countertop is perfect for leaning around with a drink, and the built-in LED units offer just the right amount of glow without being overpowering. Even when not in use, it serves as a beautiful item of cabinetry that elevates the whole aesthetic of the property. I used some effort placing my collection on the racks to create a visual arrangement. The mirrored back really assist in showcasing the bottles and adding depth to the small space. It has inspired me to experiment making new cocktails that I before thought were too complicated to bother in a standard kitchen. Having the tap close might have been nice, but the space constraints meant we opted against it to save cabinet space. This was a deliberate choice we made at the design phase, and I do not rue it. The additional cupboard room for straws and accessories is far more valuable to me in the run period.

There were a few of minor drawbacks that are worth noting for a honest perspective. The wait time for the bespoke panels was a little slower than I initially hoped. It lasted about six weeks from the first payment to the actual installation date. While this is expected for tailored work, it meant a bit of patience on my end. I had wanted to have it finished for a specific birthday, but we missed that date by a few days. However, the updates from the office regarding the delay were regular, so I was not kept in the unknowing. I would wait a bit longer for a result that is made to endure than receive a rushed job that breaks after a couple months. The start cost estimate was also a little lower than the total bill, mainly because I decided to upgrade the handles and add extra internal lighting midway during the process. These changes were completely my decision, and the team was extremely clear about the additional fees required. Another small issue was the amount of packaging remaining following the fitting. Although the worker tidied up the build area perfectly, there was a large amount of waste to dispose of in my bins. It wasn't a big deal, but something to keep in mind if you possess limited bin room. Despite these small details, the overall journey was very good. The standard of the finish is much better to anything I could have purchased off-the-shelf. It feels sturdy and durable, and I am sure it will handle decades of parties. I feel the value it has given to my home far exceeds the initial outlay. It has changed the way I use my downstairs space, making it much more inviting. I not anymore feel cluttered when friends come over.

Thinking back on the whole experience, I am truly glad I opted forward with it. The first idea originated from a trip to a friend's house in London, where they had a comparable bar. I realised then how much it enhanced the movement of the evening. When I returned to Reading, I began researching local firms and found that going with a specialist outfit was the best route to achieve the exact look I wanted. The chance to choose each detail, from the shade of the paint to the position of the plug outlets, made the end result was just as I pictured. I also got a tiny hidden compartment built for keeping expensive items like silver stirrers. This level of personalisation is what renders the service special. It didn't seem like a generic item being forced into a space where it didn't fit. Instead, it looks like it has forever been a part of the house. If you are considering a similar home improvement, my tip would be to be patient and invest the effort on the planning stage. It is much better to change a sketch than it is to fix a unit once it is manufactured. The knowledge offered during the start was invaluable in preventing me from making simple mistakes, such as placing the fridge too close to a radiator. These little details of wisdom are what you pay for when you choose experienced professionals. I am now looking at other areas of my home to see where further I could install fitted storage. The outcome of this bar project has given me the drive to tackle a larger renovation in the kitchen later year. It has been a wonderful addition to my daily routine, and I view forward to many years of using it with relatives and pals. Finding the right balance between style and function was the aim, and I feel we reached it completely. The process from a messy corner to a sleek social point was truly worth the time and investment required. I today have a home that I get more info am truly proud to share off to visitors. Reading has some nice venues to go for a drink, but honestly, I now favour being at my place and enjoying my own personal setup. It provides the same feel without the noise or the travel. That alone was worth the whole undertaking. I am very pleased with how the ambience functions in the evening, providing a chill environment to unwind after a long shift at the office. It is the little treats like this that make home life much pleasant and fulfilling. I highly value the workmanship that went into the final product. The way the doors shut with a soft thud speaks volumes about the build level. No detail was overlooked, and the final appearance is precisely what I needed it would be when I first began this adventure. It is a testament to the talent of the fitters and the quality of the materials used. I am a truly happy client.
